Hobbes and his family (webmaster Reid Joyce and his wife, Beth) were blessed in July 1998 with the birth of their first grandchild, Mason. While Mason's mom (their daughter, Kate Stover) works during the week, Mason spends the day at the Joyces' house, watched by his adoring grandma, Beth. Hobbes was 14 months old when Mason became part of their weekday family. Up to that point, he had been the full-time baby in the house.

These pictures give a pretty accurate sense of the relationship between Hobbes and Mason. Many years ago, Reid and Beth's first Lab, Missy, had the same relationship with their son, Alan.

Hobbes chooses to spend a lot of time hanging out with Mason while he's on the floor.
